Thank you for your interest! From AT THE FRONT Militaria Website description. Reproduction of the first model WWII Heer winter trousers, reversible from Splinter A camouflage to white. These are the 1st pattern of Winterhose, made in 1943-44, without knee patches or the storm flap. The shell fabric is 100% cotton. Lined with high quality polar fleece which has the same weight and feel as the Reizwolle (recycled wool) lining of the originals- while also being warmer, less prone to shrinkage, and 1/2 the cost. These trousers feature pebbled buttons, ankle ties, waist tie, overlapping fly, and detachable suspenders. Machine washable, shrinkage is 1. We copied the original sizing system exactly.

The Germans designed these to be worn over several layers of clothing, and thus they are already oversized to allow for this! These are designed to be worn higher than most trousers in order to insulate the body. The top will ride above the navel. If you have a large belly, measure around your middle rather than using your trouser waist size. There is one inherent design flaw on these trousers- the attachment point for the suspenders.

On nearly all well used originals, one finds resewn buttons and plugs of material missing where the tension from the suspenders ripped the buttons out. The 1944-45 pattern trousers finally addressed this with belt loops and suspenders being attached via wooden toggles reinforced with strips of extra fabric. I considered this option, but since this was only seen on late, non-reversible trousers I opted not to.

We did add an extra set of buttons at the front (4 instead of 2) as a back up. However, the best option to permanently fix this is to sew on a patch of fabric for reinforcement, then hand sew the button on with cord.
