Our New Reproduction WW2 German Tornister Backpack. They only took 2 years to get right but we are very pleased with the results. These were reproduced by one of our overseas manufacturers using a few of our originals. They are all had sewn with the proper materials.
The only option these lack is the mess tin pouch which was not present in either of the originals we used as guidelines. We have had many originals with and without the Mess Tin pouch and in many cases, it was simply cut out by the Soldat. This is a great addition to any novice or experienced reenactors kit. These are made of the proper olive linen fabric and quality leather. The leather is a mix of smooth and pebble grain just like the originals we used to make them. I think this gives them a little more character than keeping all the leather smooth. We had new dyes made for the brackets and bolts holding the straps together. Our previous version had sheet metal brackets these new ones are stamped like the originals. We sourced rawhide for the top inside of the pack so that they would keep their form.
Our older reproductions as well as other vendors renditions only have a floppy leather piece. Since the fabric was made in a large long roll there can be imperfections ranging from small snag in the weave or a slight discoloration here and there. The hardware can also have chips in the paint here or there.
