This is early model with 4 pairs of hooks and 5 pairs of holes for laces. Dense undyed leather is directed flesh side out on front detail. You should know that a foot is held in a boot by instep, not by finger set agaist the nose of the boot. Add to this that boots get smaller after some use (leather items tend to shrink with time).
You shouldn't take a close size, you'd better take plus size. Leather care is time-consuming, but essential in this hobby. The German soldier took care of all his equipment all the time. They were not his; they were Reich property. Not only that, they kept his feet protected so he would make sure the leather was properly oiled and the soles maintained. That being said, you must take care of your boots! We do it as Germans in 1930-s did. Vegetable tanned skin was used for boots producing and mint boots had tan (beige, brown) colour. We use high-quality Italian leather dye. We put the paint layer by layer and soak leather well. Greasing is obligatory for vegetable tanned leather before the first use, otherwise boots will crack and fall apart. You should support it as well, putting grease or oil every time after it got wet. We use a mixture of grease and wax and put it melted. Then we heat boots, so grease impregnate it deeply, chocking out pores and seams. It's hard to paint greased boots.
