For sale I have an ORIGINAL hand signed placard signed by the famous Fallschirmjager Major Walter Koch also a Knight's Cross recipient!! This WW2 German Fallschirmjager Officer hand written placard by none other than Major Koch!!
It's dimensions are 42cmx27cm. A unique one-of-a-kind cardboard greeting card from Fallschirmjager Knight's Cross holder and Battalion Commander of the I. Battalion of the Fallschirmjager Sturm Regiment Major Walter Koch.
Koch was a famous leader of German paratroopers who led the successful Assault on the fortress of Eben Emael in Belgium at the start of the French campaign in 1940. Koch was later wounded in Africa, evacuated to Germany to convalesce, and subsequently died in an automobile accident in 1944. This hand written placard from Koch was written in his own hand in ink as a hasty birthday greeting to Fallschirmjager Oberstleutnant (later General) Gustav Wilke, then Commander of the Luftlande Geschwader, on March 6, 1941.
This was obviously done in haste on available scrap material due to ongoing combat operations in Russia at the time and the non-stop operational tempo of the German paratrooper going on. This placard was costum framed with UV protective glass to lrevent fading. Included with the placard and custom frame is information (Gustav Wilke) on the recipient of this placard from Major Koch!! The information is enclosed in an envelope affixed to the back of the frame. Also included with this is an original (used) character post card of Major Walter Koch! If you look closely on the upper left hand of the post card you can see an image of Kochs autograph which resembles the autograph on the placard. An excellent and RARE piece of WW2 history!!Would be great for display in any Luftwaffe or Fallschirmjager themed display.
