RARE REVERSED EAGLE GERMAN WW2 STYLE SMALLSWORD / DAGGER. I don't know much about this piece except that it's obviously associated with WW2 Germany. It's all steel (hilt, blade, scabbard, fittings), everything tight & secure, overall condition well shown in the photos. Total length is 22" (56cm), blade is 16" (41cm), weighs 1.7lb (0.75kg).

It's shorter than most swords but longer than most daggers. So, smallsword or dagger, you decide. The most interesting, perhaps unique, feature is that the Reich Eagle faces the blade (reversed, upsidedown), not the hilt as all other German daggers I've seen.

I've exhaustively searched the Internet and found no other example (original, repro, custom, fantasy) remotely similar. Is there some mysterious symbolism in the reversed eagle? I encourage you to research it also. All in all, an extraordinarily interesting edged weapon; a unique, perhaps controversial, conversation piece to add to your militaria collection.
